Download and unzip the extension file
Click the download button above. Once downloaded, unzip the file — you should see a folder called videogate-extension containing several files including manifest.json, panel.html, and popup.js. Keep this folder somewhere permanent — do not delete it.

Open Chrome Extensions and enable Developer Mode
In Chrome, go to chrome://extensions in the address bar. In the top-right corner, toggle Developer Mode ON. This allows you to install extensions that aren't from the Chrome Web Store.

Load the extension folder
Click Load unpacked — a folder picker will open. Navigate to and select the videogate-extension folder you unzipped in Step 1. VIDEOLOCK will appear in your extensions list with the lock icon.

Activate your license key
Click the VIDEOLOCK icon in your Chrome toolbar to open the side panel. You will be asked to enter your license key — check the email you purchased with for your key. It looks like xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx. Enter it and click Activate.

Connect your Systeme.io account
In the VIDEOLOCK panel, enter your Systeme.io API key — found in SIO → Profile → Settings → API Keys → Create. Click Load Tags and your tags will appear in a dropdown. Select the tag you want applied to every opt-in. You are now ready to generate your first gate.

Creating Gates

Generate Your
First Video Gate

Choose your platform and paste your video URL
Click Create Gate in the dashboard. Select YouTube, Vimeo, or Direct Video URL. Paste your full video URL — VIDEOLOCK extracts the ID automatically. Add a Video Label so it shows up clearly in your dashboard stats.

Set your gate trigger time
Enter the number of seconds into the video where the gate fires. 15 seconds works well for VSLs — enough time to hook them but not so long they leave. For webinar replays, try 60-90 seconds. The Zeigarnik Effect kicks in hardest right after the hook lands.

Customize the gate overlay copy and color
Edit the headline, sub-headline, button text and privacy note. Choose your brand color from the six options — the button, border glow and progress bar all update live. Optionally add your Facebook Pixel ID and CAPI token for retargeting (see Pixel Setup below).

Generate and paste the code into Systeme.io
Click Generate Gate Code. Three tabs appear: HTML, CSS and JS. Copy each one separately using the Copy button on each tab:

HTML tab → Paste into a Custom HTML block on your SIO page
CSS tab → Page Settings → Edit header code
JS tab → Page Settings → Edit footer code

Save the page, preview it, play the video. The gate fires at your exact timestamp.

Clear gate cookies for testing
After testing, click the "Clear Gate Cookies" button in the extension to reset the unlock cookie. Otherwise the gate won't show again on your own browser.

Create a dedicated tag per video
Create a specific SIO tag for each gated video — "VSL Optin", "Webinar Optin". This lets you segment and trigger different automations per video.

Check your dashboard daily
The VIDEOLOCK dashboard shows conversion rate per video. Anything below 30% needs a better hook or earlier gate. Anything above 60% is crushing it.

Always test on mobile
The gate overlay is fixed to the page and works on all devices. But always preview your SIO page on your phone after setup to confirm the layout looks right.

🎯 Setting Up Facebook Custom Audiences

Go to Meta Business Manager → Events Manager and verify your pixel is receiving events after your first test gate view.

In Ads Manager → Audiences → Create Audience → Custom Audience → Website, select the pixel event you want — e.g. Video75Percent.

Set the time window (30-180 days) and name it clearly — e.g. "75% Video Watchers - VSL Page". Click Create Audience.

Create a separate audience for Lead events. In your retargeting campaign, exclude the Lead audience so you never pay to retarget someone already on your list.

For server-side tracking, enter your Facebook CAPI Access Token in the extension pixel section. Get it from Events Manager → your pixel → Settings → Conversions API → Generate Access Token.
